Nice park with a fascinating history, great hiking trails as well as a nice visitors center. We enjoyed the 2.5 mile hike to the restored fortifications. The trails were well-maintained, however, some of the steps were rather steep. One of the interesting things to see was the Mississippi River overlook. There, you were able to see the Mississippi River in it's current position and where it was actually located during the Civil War. It was fascinating to learn the history of Fort Pillow and the massacre that ultimately took place there.

Just a heads-up that cell-phone service is very sketchy in/around the park. There was what appeared to be a footbridge that was damaged and out of commission. I'm not sure where that bridge would have taken us, but it looked like it had been impressive at one time. In addition to hiking, you can go camping, fishing and picnicking.

Site of a horrifying massacre of black federal troops by the soldiers under Nathan Bedford Forrest. Original trench grave is still visible although bodies have been removed to the Memphis National Cemetery. It is approximately a 3 mile round trip hike from the museum to the remains of the fort so be prepared. Trails are well marked and well kept. The museum is modern and the exhibits are good.

Gorgeous park with beautiful trails. It's rather in the middle of nowhere, but that gives it a very rustic feel. Make sure you buy firewood before coming in though, since the park doesn't sell it. The closest vendor was 10miles away and was rather pricey. Phone service is very spotty, so make your calls before you get there!

We had a great experience here! The tour guide was very informative as well as the park ranger! We'll definitely be back for another visit!

Gorgeous RV park. Water and electricity. Interesting history.
